In the Feb. 2 edition of the MBJ, it was reported that a deal bringing a large anonymous manufacturer to Madison County had been perhaps derailed by a Madison County Journal article that broke the story. Both Supervisor Karl Banks of Canton and an officer in economic development, who wished to remain off the record, said that the Madison County Journal had been asked to sit on the story, an allegation Publisher Jim Prince strongly denied, and the project had been seriously jeopardized if not killed altogether.
Well, not only is the deal still very much alive, it has received a name and legislative approval.
Dubbed "Project Cougar," the Legislature passed a $50-million bill to help ...
