Article: 2002 A LOOK BACK: Growth in Heights, West End highlights the year

For the first time in the tournament's history, the American Bowling Congress rolled into Billings dropping up to $40 million in the region.

That was a huge chunk of change, even though it didn't quite rise to initial estimates of $60 million.

Still, most civic leaders labeled the tourney a commercial success, luring in some 54,000 bowlers and their companions to Billings over four months.

No one knows if the tournament will come back in 10 years, but there already has been some spin-off commerce.

A local business, Employment Source, which handles hiring and payroll services for other businesses was selected to help ABC stage the 2003 tournament in Knoxville and the following year in Reno.
