Soaring prices of natural gas have made coal-fired power generation an attractive option for utility owners. As a result, much emphasis has been placed on the development of air-pollution-control technologies that will allow the continued use of coal as an energy source while meeting the stringent requirements of the Clean Air Act (CAA) Amendments of 1990, especially where NO^sub x^, emissions are concerned.
