Jim Gibson, president and CEO of Commerce Bank in Harrisburgs says he doesn't balance his checkbook anymore.
It's an unlikely confession for a banker, but he thinks it's one that more people will make as online banking catches on.
Already, 11 percent of Commerce's depositors use the bank's year-and-a-half old, free service to check their balances, transfer funds between accounts and update their accounts.
In short, they can basically balance their checkbooks without lifting a finger. And for $5 a month, they can pay bills without ever lifting a pen, Gibson said.
PNC Bank offers a similar service that uses Quicken software for its online banking, letting customers dial in with their modems ...
