When homeowners and businesses receive property tax notices this year, it will mark the culmination of a five-year process to restructure how property taxes are assessed in Indiana.

For Martinsville-based Enguard Inc., those notices will mark the start of Enguard Property Tax Service Inc., a new subsidiary focusing on residential property tax evaluation and appeals.

Enguard, founded in 1986 by owner David Glass, has made a name for itself by working with businesses to reduce tax bills. For instance, Enguard can help manufacturers figure out how much of a sales tax exemption can be claimed for utilities used in the manufacturing process.
