Article: DASH diet drops blood pressure for all

When combined with reduced dietary sodium, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and lowfat dairy foods and reduced in total and saturated fat lowers blood pressure for people of all ethnicities, according to a study by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

The study measured the effects of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which also is reduced in red meat, sweets and sugar-containing drinks and rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, fiber and protein.
