Management accounting has emerged as a key component of the profession, and is gathering further strength at both the international and national levels, according to John Corrigan
In 1987, a watershed publication was produced by Johnston and Kaplan: Relevance Lost: The Rise and Fall of Management Accounting. It predicted that management accounting as a discipline would sink into obscurity, losing both relevance and connection with reality. But just the opposite happened: in less than ten years, management accounting evolved to such an extent that it is now challenging the lead, as the accounting profession as a whole approaches the new millennium.
