number of years ago I read an article in which the author examined the basic tenets of adult learning to see which ones had stood the test of time.
As I recall, the experts he interviewed could only reach agreement on one "truth" about adult learning - adults brought additional experiences to their learning because they had lived longer.
Since then I've found myself thinking that andragogy - the field of adult learning - may have quite unintentionally set back the field of pedagogy because it implied that the favorable learning conditions advocated for adults in schools (for instance, making learning relevant, allowing adults to be self-directed) were not important for K-12 students. ...
