Alliance to build new paper machine

In a bit of a turnaround from previous plans,Alliance Forest Products Inc. said it will build a new paper machine at its Donnacona, Que., mill-the only printing/writing installation in Canada announced this year. The new C$275 million machine-to start up in 2000would make soft-nip calendered groundwood printing papers. Capacity would be 167,500 tpy (152,000 mtpy).

Originally the company planned a rebuild of the No. 3 machine that makes high-bright groundwood specialties and newsprint.
