To some it's been an eyesore. To others it's a part of La Crosse's brewing history.
But a former Gund Brewery property on South Avenue now belongs to Gundersen Lutheran, which has plans to reuse the historic building.
Sara Lee Corporation, which acquired the warehouse at 2130 South Ave. as part of Metz Baking, has donated the five-acre property to Gundersen Lutheran, said Dr. Mark Connelly, chairman of the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation.
"We are extremely grateful for this gift of real estate from the Sara Lee Corporation," Connelly said in a statement. "Such a wonderful and significant gift from a multinational corporation in these economic times is especially gratifying."
