INTRODUCTION
In the last ten years, there has been considerable change in the number of candidates sitting Alevels in Economics and Business Studies. In the 1980s, the number of candidate entries in both Economics and Business Studies increased. In the 1990s, however, there has been a substantial decline in the numbers taking Economics whilst the numbers taking Business Studies has more than doubled. By 1995, the number of candidates sitting Business Studies had overtaken those sitting Economics, although the combined numbers for both subjects taken together had begun to fall. 1996 saw a possibly significant new development with the first candidates sitting a joint examination in Economics ...
