Article: CMS adopts NFPA life safety code

The Dept. of Health and Human Services Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) has adopted the 2000 edition of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, as its updated fire and life safety requirement for facilities receiving Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements. As stated in the Jan. 10, 2003, Federal Register, updating the code serves to "ensure that patients and staff continue to experience the highest degree of fire safety possible."
