Abstract

Nurses have been identified as being in an ideal position to help meet the health needs of young people in relation to substance misuse.1 As a consequence, these healthcare professionals need to understand the local context of young people's substance misuse and be able to plan care utilising the local services available. This paper explores some of the problems that community practitioners are likely to encounter in attempting to identify the needs of young people with substance misuse problems.
