Zhang Juguo, a scholar at Nankai University in China, charts W. E. B. Du Bois's struggle for racial freedom over familiar ground, noting that after World War II, Du Bois completely abandoned the democratic capitalism of the United States to advance a world democracy of self-determination and socialism.
