New Jersey's biotech industry, while seeing less start-ups and fewer mergers and acquisitions, is nonetheless full of innovation and is working to further improve its stance in the Garden State,

"It's an extremely exciting time," says Debbie Hart, president of the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey (BCNJ), Trenton, an organization with more than 130 member companies. She says the global attention being paid to New Jersey's biotech industry is substantial, as is attention within the state. She adds that Governor James E. McGreevey has indentified the biotech industry as important and has done "significant things" such as initiating the New Jersey Life Sciences Cluster Study.
