Introduction
There is little doubt that the future of the National Health Service (NHS) lies firmly in the digital age. The benefits of having all patient information digitised, regardless of source, include nationwide access to patients' textual information (full notes and potentially images), a huge database for research and the drawing together of patient data from both primary, secondary and tertiary sources.
The Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and Health Record (EHR) will soon be a reality albeit in a limited fashion initially with only minimal data being acquired nationally. The system is intended to evolve and will eventually provide a national database where all patient ...
