On a sunny autumn morning, there's a relaxing resonance to the clatter of footsteps on sidewalks and the easy laughter of couples strolling. Old Town Winchester at the northern tip of Virginia is made for walking. Shops and restaurants in handsome buildings surround a pedestrian mall in an 18-block area in the downtown historic district.
"It reminds me so much of England. I can relate to the architecture and the age of the buildings," Richard Oram says as he stops work for a moment in his workshop at Stone Soup Gallery. Though he moved from England only two years ago, Richard says he feels right at home.
