A density mapping tool developed for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is being integrated with a GIS system to map the progress and future potential of organics diversion in the state.
IN 2000, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) established an aggressive goal to reduce waste by 70 percent by the year 2010. Although reaching this goal will require progress in a number of areas, commercial and institutional food residuals represent one of the best targets for increasing diversion in Massachusetts.
