Shima Seiki sells 5,500 flat knitting machines

Shima Seiki Mfg., Ltd. increased its sales by nearly 11%, operating profits by 67%, ordinary profits by 57% and net profits by 59% on a consolidated basis in the fiscal year ending in March 2003. Sales of flat knitting machines rose to an all-time high of 5,500 machines centering on exports to Turkey and China. This figure includes 557 "WholeGarment" machines, and sales of this machine are expected to reach 900 in the current fiscal year.
