If not for copiers, Laura Substalae's life might be a lot different. The owner of Carmel's Natural Stone Specialist, a tile and stone retailer and installer, started out after college selling copiers.

"I hated it," she said.

The job taught her the fundamentals of selling, however, which she took with her when she landed a job at a tile distributor owned by a friend of her mother's.
