How much to lower IOP? Opinions vary, study finds

Doctors surveyed tend to treat with different degrees of aggression depending on disease

CHARLESTON, SC-Ophthalmologists may agree that it is important to lower IOP in glaucoma, but opinions vary regarding just how much.

In an effort to evaluate physician's IOP treatment goals in primary openangle glaucoma (POAG), ocular hypertension (OHT), and normal-tension glaucoma (NTG), South Carolina researchers conducted a fax survey of 100 physicians randomly chosen from the American Academy of Ophthalmology directory and the American Glaucoma Society directory.

Fifty-seven physicians, 18 of whom were glaucoma subspecialists and 39 general ophthalmologists, answered the survey.
