As the first Turandot and as prima donna of the Chicago Grand Opera Company, Polish soprano Rosa Raisa (1893-1963) holds an assured place in opera history. Like her friendly rival Rosa Ponselle, Raisa had a large voice, surpassingly rich; unlike Ponselle, she also had a blazingly secure top.
