Article: Mexico: Paper and board bring mixed results in 2000

Last year was an extraordinary time for Mexico. In July, the PAN opposition party won the country's elections and uprooted the PRI party that had held power for 71 years. GNP growth reached 6.9%, well beyond expectations even for an election year. Additionally, there was a healthy change from the country's usual financial difficulties with inflation continuing on a downward trend. Inflation was just below 9.0% in 2000, a significant improvement from the previous year's level of 12.3%. The positive pattern looks set to continue with an inflation forecast of just 6.5% this year.
