This study falls into two more or less unrelated parts: (1) in the first chapter Franzmann makes a strong plea for the use of the Nag Hammadi writings in the search for the historical Jesus and reviews the contributions that have been made along such lines; (2) in all but one of the succeeding chapters E takes up themes that cluster around the figure of Jesus in the Nag Hammadi writings.
