Because of the high rates of adolescent depression and the risk of suicide, particularly among teenagers who are living in poverty, this article describes and recommends a school-based cognitive-behavioral curriculum for the treatment of depressed adolescents. The curriculum is adapted from. Clarke, Lewinsohn, and Hops for application in the school setting with teenagers from low-income and ethnic minority families. The authors discuss the theoretical approach and present details of the six-week sessions so that social workers can implement the curriculum in the school setting.
