On March 27 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced amendments to regulations for licensing, inspection, and annual fees charged to applicants and licensees for fiscal year (FY) 2003. The agency is required to collect most of its annual appropriated bud-get through annual fees paid by all licensees and fees for NRC services, such as licensing and inspection activities. By law, the NRC must recover 94% of its budget for FY 2003 (minus $24.7 million appropriated from the Nuclear Waste Fund for high-level waste activities) for a total of $526.3 million.
