El Paso Energy's (EPE) Macae Plant is located in the municipality of Macae, in the State of Rio de Janeiro in southeast Brazil. Macae was developed on a fast-track schedule as EPE moved aggressively to respond to a lack of power supply brought on by the effects of Brazil's 2000 drought that crippled the country's hydroelectric system and resulted in nationwide power rationing in 2001 and early 2002.
