Cosmetics often overlooked as cause of contact dermatitis; specific patch testing recommended by dermatologist

Steamboat Springs, Colo. - Patch testing to patients' own cosmetic products and usage tests are two important supplemental methods to identify cosmetic allergens, Leslie Stewart, M.D., said.

Cosmetics are sometimes a forgotten cause of allergic contact dermatitis in a significant percentage of cases, Dr. Stewart said at the 1999 Westwood-- Squibb Winter Skin Seminar Program.
