Our industry knows about the virtues of using a standardized variable data language to drive production. There has been debate about the differences between PPML and VDX, the two standards that have been created to produce color variable data print. In this article, I'll focus on the story behind the standards to understand why they are important in the first place and then look at the pros and cons of using either, both, or neither of them.
