IN COMPARISON with other states, Florida is a large generator of food residuals. A growing population, thriving tourist trade, and sizable agriculture industry all contribute to the production of well over 1. 2 million tons of food residuals annually. This figure is modest because it includes volumes from only some commercial and industrial generators, which are not required to report waste generation or disposal numbers. Food residuals generation will continue to increase as the state's population and tourist industry grow.
