Article: Restigouche rising: social solidarity in New Brunswick

THE FUTURE HOMELESS OF RESTIGOUCHE IS a small but very active group of people. We started as a protest group against UI cuts, and now we are focusing on issues of poverty in our area. New faces keep popping up at our meetings. Last night, four new people showed up, including three women. It was a moment to celebrate because, at the beginning, we were mostly men. We know that one element of our success will be to reflect the realities of our own community.

We come from different backgrounds, and many of us come from a very rough past. Some of us are society's rejects, but that makes us even stronger. We know when trouble is brewing and we can face it.
