Article: Not afraid any more: the story of a strike

MY NAME IS NANCY PRIDHAM. I WORK AT Queen Street Mental Health Centre, which is a large psychiatric facility in Toronto. It has 425 clients, and probably just as many staff, with nurses making up the majority. We also have psychology, social work, maintenance, dietary staff, housekeeping, recreation, and occupational therapy.

I'm a registered practical nurse and I've been at Queen Street for 12 years. I'm 31. I came from a farming community called Palmerston, in Ontario, where my parents owned a pig farm. I went to Queen Street for a full - time job, although I said I'd never live in Toronto for as long as I live. But here I am, and here I've been -- in Parkdale.
