With each innovation in home equipment, consumers adapt criteria for choice and expectations; they also rethink and relearn operating skills. The increasing complexity of home appliances and related products parallels a steady decline in the number of programs to educate or update professionals who work with consumers. A survey of 152 professionals involved with some aspect of home equipment indicated an interest in a glossary of terms as well as short-term educational opportunities. One means for providing capsules of learning on a particular topic would be through learning modules.
