New Orleans -- Clinical experience in Europe is proving topical immunotherapy one of the most effective treatments ever for alopecia areata, Antonella Tosti, M.D., said.
However, practicing dermatologists have no way to judge topical immunotherapy with other conventional treatments, because there are few comparative studies available, Dr. Tosti said at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Examples do exist of double-sided, patient-controlled trials. Dermatologists in Singapore have reported excellent hair growth in 68 percent of 19 patients compared with 11 percent excellent response for untreated alopecia sites on those same patients (Chua S.H. et al., Ann Acad Med. ...
