Bradley Weill grew up in Baton Rouge, graduated from Harvard Business School with an MBA in June and moved to Austin, Texas, where he bought a house and landed a job as a project consultant at Dell.

"I would love to come back to Baton Rouge to be near my family, but I doubt that I will return," he says.

Listening to Weill, 28, it's clear his heart belongs to Austin.

"Everyone from Austin loves Austin," he says. "People ask, 'What does Baton Rouge equal?' I don't know how to answer that."

A group of Baton Rouge leaders headed to Austin last month seeking the city's secret formula for selling itself. They listened to speakers such as Weill talk about why they chose Austin over Baton Rouge.
