DRIVING SIMULATION TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO EXPLORE THE EFFECTS OF CELLULAR PHONE USE ON DRIVER ERRORS AND TRAFFIC SAFETY. THESE ERRORS WERE USED AS A MEASURE OF DRIVER DISTRACTION. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE DANGER OF BEING DISTRACTED DOES NOT END WITH THE TERMINATION OF A PHONE CALL AND THAT THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING A HANDS-FREE OR A HANDHELD CELLULAR PHONE.
