Beta titanium alloys are technologically important. Many properties of these materials such as ductility and ambient temperature creep behavior depend on the deformation mechanisms, which in turn depend on the microstructures. There has been significant controversy in regard to deformation mechanisms and stress-induced transformation products in metastable beta titanium alloys. In this investigation, the controversial views are briefly reviewed and compared with the results of the authors on the stress-induced transformation products in a Ti 14.8 wt pct vanadium alloy.
