Tony Blair took the leading role in persuading President Clinton to bomb Serbia and occupy Kosovo in order to stop Serb ethnic cleansing there. To him, it was - and is - a moral issue. To Serbs, Greeks, Russians and other Orthodox Christian critics, Blair is a war criminal and mass-murderer, and after he has left office they will doubtless seek to have him arraigned for his 'crimes' in some country where they can manipulate the legal system, as was done to General Pinochet in England. Other critics of Blair accept his good intentions but accuse him of folly, arguing that his bombing campaign precipitated precisely the large-scale ethnic cleansing it was designed to prevent.
