Utah's low unemployment rate is being cited as the most significant factor in a plastic cutlery and straw makers choice of Twin Falls over Spanish Fork or Cedar City for a 160,000 square foot plastic injection molding and extrusion plant and its 150 jobs.
Clear Shield National, Inc., based in Wheeling, Illinois, had placed recruitment ads to staff such a plant in Utah. However, that effort was simply of an attempt to assess the availability and skill level of the local workforce, said Dennis Davidson, president and CEO.
"We really wanted to come to Utah," said Davidson. But, confronted with a 2.8 percent jobless rate, the company was not confident it could find the necessary workers.
