Truck traffic in the Harrisburg region is increasing substantially as more distribution and warehousing companies locate in the region.
While the growth of the region as a crossroads to the nation is good for the local economy, the impact on roads and highways is substantial. Traffic congestion is on the rise, and trucks cause more wear-and-tear on the roadways.
Several areas and highways in particular face a growing number of trucks on their roads, including Middlesex and South Middleton townships in Cumberland County, located near the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 81.
Interstate 83 and Routes 15, 322 and 581 also bear a major portion of the truck traffic in the area.
