Article: Flat Earth goes uphill

Although Flat Earth Records was conceived on the idea of building up the music community in Indiana, this label has successfully withstood five years of the here-today-gone-tomorrow music industry.

But President Kyle Jackson, 29, has done more than simply persevere. He has watched his $3,000 investment for one record in 1995 grow into $90,000 in sales from 10 records in 1998.

"We are planning to double that next year," said Brandon O'Leary, the label's 24-year-old manager and only full-time employee. The label has bumped up its production from an average of three to six records per year to a projected nine releases in 1999.
