Pennsylvania is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a state Supreme Court decision throwing out a sales tax exemption for Bibles and other religious publications.
Attorney General Mike Fisher filed the appeal July 20th, asking the nation's highest court to clarify what he sees as its nebulous position on tax exemptions for religious publications.
Fisher said the court's 1989 ruling in Texas Monthly Inc. v. Bullock - which held that publication cannot be tax exempt just because they are religious -was based on four separate opinions by justices, with no single view carrying a majority.
