The quest for a lower cost option for oxygen separation is promoting increasing interest in ceramic membranes. Many efforts now focus on providing oxygen for gas processing, but opportunities also beckon in pollution abatement and elsewhere.
The benefits of using ceramic membranes are many, notes Dr. Yufei Gao, an engineer in the Environmental Sciences Division of Battelle's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).
