Brown takes `all-business' approach to NAACP executive director post

LaVera Brown is in a prestigious position as executive director of the Pittsburgh NAACP.

But prestige isn't the reason she decided to give up retirement to work in the civil rights field full-time.

She wants to make a difference in the community she loves.

"I view it very definitely as all business," said Brown, whose first day as executive director of the branch was Aug. 1.

She will earn $40,000 annually, including benefits.

"It's not so much fun, but it will be rewarding. It's an opportunity to be central in a community that is still suffering from a lot of insensitivity."
