Study shows that newspapers do a better job, but the average citizen gives the nod to television
City government affects every person in a city every day. Its activities determine how many times a car clunks in a pothole on our way to work and how many stoplights the car must pass. Despite the impact on our daily lives, journalism trade magazines portray city hall as the Rodney Dangerfield of beats. It gets no respect. Readers of these magazines discover that television news directors label city government "boring" and "visually uninteresting;" while newspaper editors find it toward the bottom of readers' preferred story lists.
