Hawkins files $2 billion suit against Burger King

Florida-based attorney Willie Gary has taken on fast-food franchise giant Burger King Corp. in a $1.9 billion lawsuit.

Gary is representing La-Van Hawkins, who was recruited by Burger King to create a business plan to promote the franchise in inner-city markets.

The suit alleges that Burger King deceived Hawkins to believe that he could develop 225 Burger King restaurants over a five-year period, and committed fraud and misrepresentation, racial discrimination, breach of contract and breach of implied duty of good faith and fair dealing. Hawkins currently owns 27 Burger Kings in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
