New patch might help a woman's diminished sex drive
HOUSTON--A testosterone patch designed to improve the sex drive of women who have had their ovaries removed is the focus of a new study.
"Women who have had ovarian surgery might experience as much as a 50 percent decrease in testosterone," said Dr. John Buster, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and one of the study's lead investigators.
"The loss of testosterone can affect a woman's sex drive, decrease her energy, muscle strength and cognitive abilities and contribute to bone loss. However, we're evaluating how the patch affects sex drive," she said.
