Walk In The Light: History of a lodge... Prince Hall (1735-1807)
Fraternal leader and civil rights activist Prince Hall was born on or about Sept. 12, 1748 in Bridgetown Barbados, West Indies. His father, Thomas Prince Hall, was an Englishman, and his mother a free woman of French descent. His father was engaged in the leather business. Of humble circumstances, his parents were known among their peers as pious people of excellent character.
At the age of 12, Hall was placed as an apprentice to a leather craftsman, a trade at which he made rapid progress.
He harbored a great desire, however, to visit America. Though he confided his wish to his parents, they offered no encouragement. ...
