Jonny Gammage may have died at the hands of five white suburban police officers, but his name will live on as a result of a new scholarship fund established by the Pittsburgh Branch of the NAACP.

Gammage, 31, died Oct. 12, 1995, after being stopped for allegedly driving erratically along Route 51.

George Fyke announced the creation of The Jonny Gammage Memorial Scholarship Fund during a Jan. 19 press conference.
