Coming from Allegheny County, a trip to Beaver County may seem like a trip to the country.
Driving on the seemingly never-ending Route 60 past Pittsburgh International Airport to Hopewell, Aliquippa, or Monaca, you cannot help but see the plush forests and virtually building-free skyline.
What's behind those rolling hills may surprise some Allegheny County residents.
According to the 1990 U.S. Census, Beaver County has a total population of 186,093. Of that, African-Americans account for approximately 10,475 - the second largest Black population in western Pennsylvania.
